ESG: Why it’s critical for SMEs & how to help them get started

From climate change to the global pandemic, external events have pushed ESG issues to the fore. Sustainability is now business-critical for every company, whether large or small, bringing challenges but also opportunities. Climate change is a key risk for businesses, but also represents opportunities for SMEs who can embrace sustainability early in their lifecycle. Embedding sustainability from the beginning means it grows with you, develops and evolves along with the company. SMEs who invest in sustainability will likely find a competitive edge, as well as future-proofing the resilience of their business.

Last year, we successfully piloted the EBRD's Masterclasses for Consultants series, with some of our renowned experts and advisers. Now, we're excited to bring to you the next series of dedicated masterclasses, but this time with a special focus on "green for SMEs". This three-part series will tackle the key challenges SMEs have in "greening" their operations - from their business models to their supply chains -, the principles of circular economy, as well as the key role ESG standards play in fostering business resilience and longevity.  Throughout the series, consultants will learn how to address the scepticism amongst SMEs around sustainable practices and empower them to do their part for the environment and their own business.
